Abstract
In this study, the effects of amide and ester backbones of ligands on the crystal structures and gas storage capability of mercury halide coordination polymers were investigated. Two classes of organic compoundsare Lamide=phenyleneisonicotinamide and Lester=phenyleneisonicotinate ligands. Identical 2D coordination polymers [Hg(Lamide)Cl2]n (1) and [Hg(Lester)Cl2]n (2) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. Thermal stability and nitrogen gas sorption capacity of the polymers were investigated and the results showed that these compounds have different properties. In title compounds, 3D hydrogen bonded network formed by C-H…O interactions. These networks have the potential for gas adsorption
