Abstract
Acrylic resins based on methyl methacrylate (MMA), butyl acrylate, styrene, and acrylic acid have been thus far synthesized using various types of initiators. Azo initiators such as azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) and organic peroxide initiators like benzoyl peroxide (BPO), namely, two common types of initiators, were utilized in these reactions. After polymerization, the Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy spectrums of the resin samples were studied. The results revealed that maximum 3% use of AIBN as an initiator to synthesize acrylic resins could lead to better results compared with others.
