Abstract

It was always a concern to find a proper way in order to improve resin properties. Properties of result product could be affected by several factors such as monomer ratio, reaction temoerature, type and amount of initiator and solvent content. Acrylic resins were synthesized using azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) initiator with w/w of 1.5 and 3% in xylene with w/w of 72, 60 and 40% via solution polymerization. After polymerization, the relations between solvent content and viscosity of acrylic resin and the effects of initiator concentration on final resin solid content were studied. The results revealed a considerable increase in the viscosity of resin caused by reducing solvent content. In addition, increasing initiator dosage to the optimum level lead to solid content increase. Sample 6 with w/w of 3% initiator and w/w of 40% solvent content had the optimum result compared with others.
