Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to synthesize a type of carbon quantum dot (CQD) with highly quantum yield for application in imaging and targeting of cancer cells. In the current study, one-step synthesis of highly luminescent CQDs is obtained by citric acid, ethylenediamine and magnesium hydroxide as precursor using the hydrothermal method. Characterization results of synthesized CQD show a co-doped of CQD with nitrogen and magnesium with highly quantum yield. CQD nanoparticles have mean particle size of 7.4 nm with quantum yield of 86%. Sample has high stability and excellent solubility in aqueous media with acceptable zeta potential value of about -20 mV.
