Abstract
In this study, the mechanical properties of recycled polyester fibers (according to ASTMD 3039 Standard) were investigated. Since the production of recycled fibers with desirable mechanical properties is not economically viable, these desirable properties can be created in the fibers by various and costeffective methods. Simultaneously with the analysis of mechanical properties, due to the importance of low weight of coating in high thickness, the density of three coating formulations was investigated. In the formulation of the samples, three factors of density, adhesion of the coating to recycled polyester and cost, were considered in order to achieve the desired mechanical properties by applying them to recycled polyester. 4 strips with fixed and rectangular cross section of recycled polyester were prepared. Tensile strength was analyzed after 72 hours of coating application and complete drying of the samples. According to the tensile test, it was observed that increasing the percentage of recycled fibers in the coating and decreasing the coating density, can lead to improved tensile strength and increasing the amount of calcium carbonate leads to a decrease in tensile strength. Applying the coating on the polyester fibers reduced the amount of elongation at the point of breakage. The presence of calcium carbonate also increased the severity of this decrease.
