In addition to medicinal and food applications, plants are also used as pesticides, dyeing, building tools, and other important industrial and agricultural raw materials. The present study aims to document the application of plants in the industry among border residents of northeast Iran. Semi-structured interviews were carried out in field studies from September 2018 to October 2021 in the eight border cities of Khorasan-e Razavi province. A total of 22 informants, aged between 45 to 83, were chosen based on a snowball sampling in 25 villages. Plant specimens were collected and identified .Eighteen plants were registered for industrial use, the most used being Ephedra ciliata Fisch. & C.A.Mey. (12 reports), Juglans regia L. and Juniperus polycarpos K.Koch (both with five reports). Most applications in the region were recorded for the industries of dyes (45%), building materials (17.5%), and pesticides (10%). Considering the high use and different applications of plants in the industry, and since this species does not have a harmful environmental impact and has the potential to yield a wide range of products, they can be used in various industries, but populations of these species may be threatened due to over-harvesting; thus they should be prioritized for conservation planning.
