While analytics could leverage the healthcare performance to new levels, application of analytics in healthcare faces numerous challenges, ranging from technical, to managerial, and to human resources. Besides, analyzing of patients’ data causes privacy and security concerns that must be resolved before proper employment of health systems analytics fully become functional. We develop a research framework for healthcare analytics to provide a guideline to further the field while dealing with the challenges discussed. This framework presents the opportunities in healthcare analytics to promote active research in this field. To achieve this goal, we discuss the healthcare system, its value chain and processes, main stakeholders of healthcare from suppliers to government and patients, the sources of data and the major issues and problems in health system that could be addressed using analytical tools. Development of the framework will be achieved through literature review and case studies.
