Abstract

A design method for graded-index lens antennas is proposed. The method consists of proposing a phase function in a region of space that meets the boundary conditions of the design and employing the state-of-the art optical path rescaling method. The latter allows us to adjust the lens’s refractive index. A lens prototype is designed with a length of 6, an aperture width of 8.7, and a maximum refractive index of 1.6. This lens provides a directivity of 25.4 dB and a side-lobe level of -24 dB. The functionality of the design method is verified using COMSOL.
