Abstract

Annexins (Anns) have a key role in plant growth, development and stress response. Although Ann genes have been identified in some plants but they have not been studied in S. parvula and Eutrema salsugineum yet. In this study the amino acid sequence of Ann genes from Arabidopsis thaliana was utilized as a query against two halophyte plants genome database using the BLASTP tool. Bioinformatics analysis was used to investigate phylogenetic relationships, gene structure and conserved domains. Ten and eight putative Ann genes were found in the genome ofS. parvula and E. salsugineum respectively, which were divided into six subfamilies according to phylogenetic relationships. Gene structure results together with conserved domains suggest that Ann genes have a common ancestor gene and they are conserved during plant evolution because of their role in development and many biological processes. Our findings lay the foundation for further investigation into the role of the Ann gene family in S. parvula and E. salsugineum which offered the starting point for cloning and the genetic manipulation.
