Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the incidence, localization, and causes of sport injuries in Iranian collegiate elite girl’s artistic gymnasts.30 elite girl’s gymnasts were included in the study, witch consisted of written questionnaire reporting data concerning the injuries and cause of injuries. The method of this investigation was retrospective analysis of injury incidence localization and causes of sport injuries in Iranian collegiate elite girl’s artistic gymnasts. The gymnasts experienced a total 994 injuries and 93.3 % of elite gymnasts were injured. A majority of the injuries was muscle injuries (65%) such as hip and groin strain then, other injuries consisted of skin injuries (26%), joint injuries (9%), acute and chronic pain (7.6%), and bone injuries (1.7%). The most important causes of Gymnastics injuries were consisted in Lack of physical fitness (16%), lack of facilities and equipment (16%), overuse injuries (12%), and unsuitable gymnastics equipment (12%).
