This study aimed to determine the prevalence of bovine herpes virus-1 (BHV-1) antibodies in bulk tank milk from 160 dairy cattle herds in the suburb of Mashhad, Iran. None of the herds were vaccinated against BHV-1. A commercial indirect ELISA-kit was used to detect specific antibodies, with results interpreted based on percent positivity (PP) values. The apparent and true prevalence of BHV-1 antibody-positive herds was found to be 64.375% and 68.78%, respectively. Statistical analysis revealed a direct correlation between herd size and BHV-1 infection (p<0.05, OR=10.30). These findings indicate that exposure to BHV-1 is widespread in dairy cattle herds in the suburb of Mashhad, Iran.
