Abstract
The utilization of organic fatty acids as supplements in historical mortars poses a significant technical hurdle, particularly when incorporating oils on location. This research addresses this challenge by developing a solution through the creation of hydrophobic lime putty enriched with sesame oil and assessing its performance in air lime mortars. The findings indicate that mortars containing the new lime putty demonstrate substantial hydrophobic properties comparable to those of traditional lime putty mixes with added oil. The durability of the treated lime putty was verified twelve months after its production, showcasing its long-term effectiveness. This approach presents a practical method for on-site applications and contributes to the conservation of historical masonry structures.
