Abstract
Vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique using acetylene , H2 as the carbon source and inert gas respectively. Nickel was deposited as the catalyst using magnetron sputtering technique on the SiO₂ buffer layer. Raman spectrum showed disordered groups (D bands) in the 1350–1360 cm⁻¹ range, indicative of sp³ hybridization and the peaks corresponding to tangential modes (G bands) in the 1380–1390 cm⁻¹ range suggest sp² hybridization confirming formation of carbon nanotubes. Also, FESEM images confirmed the pristine structure of multi-walled carbon nanotubes remains intact, forming a vertical forest-like arrangement at both micro and nano scales.
