Abstract
Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), with their high surface area, ordered porosity, and tunable functional groups, offer a versatile platform for selective chemical sensing. In this work, we developed a nanoscale colorimetric sensor for amine-based compounds, particularly methamphetamine, using a green mechanochemical (solvent-free) synthesis. The sensing molecule was incorporated as a guest into the porous and chemically stable ZIF-8 framework, providing enhanced stability and performance. This eco-friendly approach minimizes environmental impact while enabling a visible color change in the presence of trace amounts of methamphetamine, ensuring rapid, selective, and efficient detection under ambient conditions. The study demonstrates the promise of mechanochemically synthesized MOF-based sensors for environmental and forensic applications.
