Abstract
Mg-RE alloys are recognized as high-performance heat-resistant magnesium alloys, but the high cost of are-earth elements has limited their applications. In this study, a cost-effective, heat-resistant multi-principal element magnesium alloy, Mg80Al10Cu5Zn5 (at.%), was developed. In the as-cast condition, the alloy exhibits a yield strength of 228 ±6 MPa and an ultimate compressive strength of 477 ±5 MPa, surpassing conventional heat-resistant Mg alloys. Following 96 h of heat exposure at 300◦C, the alloy exhibits desirable mechanical properties at ambient and high temperatures, indicating its exceptional thermal stability.
