Abstract
This article provides a comprehensive overview of telemedicine from an AI’s point of view. Tracing its evolution, it highlighting its transformative impact on healthcare delivery in the digital era, and examines the diverse array of telemedicine devices and virtual visit platforms. It further explores the significant advantages and inherent challenges associated with telemedicine adoption, particularly in enhancing access for rural and underserved communities and revolutionizing patient care across various medical specialties. The article also delves into the future trajectory of telemedicine, by an emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence, remote patient monitoring, 5G connectivity, virtual reality, augmented reality, blockchain technology, and evolving regulatory landscapes. Finally, it addresses critical regulatory, legal, and ethical considerations, including informed consent, cross-state practice, online prescribing, data security, and the need for standardized guidelines to ensure equitable, high-quality, and safe virtual healthcare services.
