The purpose of this study was to discover the relationship between the listening skill and overall English language ability among English translation students at Payam-e-Nour University. For this purpose, ٤٠٠ EFL university undergraduate translation students at Payam-e-Nour University were administered IELTS Listening Test. According to the students\\\' responses to the test, they were divided into two groups of high-skilled and low-skilled participants regarding to their listening skill. ۱۳۰ volunteers in each group were chosen to conduct a Nelson English Language Proficiency Test (Fowler & Coe ١٩٧٦). The results showed that listening was positively and effectively related to the development and understanding of a foreign language. It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the improvement of listening skill and understanding a foreign language among English translation students of Payam-e-Nour University. Results of this study have implications for language learners encouraging them to become more conscious, autonomous, and evaluative about their language as a beneficial learning tool using listening skill to achieve higher learning proficiency in the language.
