Abstract

This study reports the synthesis and application of a core-shell magnetic Bio Metal-Organic Framework (Fe3O4@Bio-MOF), a hybrid architecture that synergistically integrates catalytic activity with magnetic separation. The composite is strategically constructed from a paramagnetic Fe3O4 core, which enables facile magnetic recovery, and a porous MOF shell. This shell, built using Co (II) ions and the biocompatible L-glutamic acid as a ligand, provides a well-defined porous structure hosting accessible and highly active catalytic sites. Comprehensive structural and compositional characterization including FT-IR, XRD, BET, FE-SEM, EDX, EDX-mapping, TGA, VSM, and ICP-OES confirmed the successful formation of nancatalyst. We utilized this advanced catalytic system to efficiently facilitate the challenging condensation reaction toward 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones (DHQ (synthesis. The Fe3O4@Bio-MOF demonstrated outstanding performance and adherence to green chemistry principles such as, mild temperature (60 ∘C) and solvent-free conditions. Furthermore, the robust nano-catalyst demonstrated superior durability and reusability, maintaining its high crystalline structure and catalytic activity for at least five consecutive cycles with minimal efficiency loss, confirming its potential as a cost-effective and sustainable catalyst for complex organic synthesis.
