Abstract

This paper proposes an effective hybrid control approach through combining together the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and fuzzy logic control method. The proposed PID-Fuzzy controller, while having the features of the PID controller, is easy to implement in reducing vibration on structural systems. Using a heuristic procedure based on a new optimization algorithm called slap swarm algorithm (SSA) and compare with two other traditional controllers like fuzzy logic control and LQR control, the PID-Fuzzy controller is designed for a building with four degree of freedom equipped with active tuned mass damper (ATMD). By Considering three earthquake ground motion real data like EL Centro (1940), Northridge (1994) and Mexico City (1995) earthquake as disturbance, the performance of the proposed SSA base PID-Fuzzy controller is evaluated. Then, the results are compared with LQR controller and fuzzy controller to show the better performance of the SSA base PID-Fuzzy controller than the other strategies. The simulation results demonstrate that the PID-Fuzzy performs better than the other methodologies which are compared in decreasing the amplitude of seismic responses of the structure in the terms of displacement and velocity of whole stories of the structure.
