Abstract

This paper proposes an effective hybrid control approach through getting together the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) control method. The proposed PID-LQR controller, while having the benefits of the PID controller, is easy to implement in reducing vibration on structural systems. Using an optimization procedure based on a new optimization algorithm called slap swarm optimization (SSA) algorithm and compare with four other evolutionary algorithms to show the SSA-base PID-LQR performance, the LQR-PID controller is designed for a building with four degree of freedom equipped with a ATM damper. By Considering the EL Centro earthquake acceleration data as disturbance, the performance of the proposed SSA base LQR-PID controller is evaluated. Then, the results are compared with LQR controller and LQR-PID controller which is optimized by four other evolutionary algorithms such as particle swarm optimization(PSO), artificial bee colony(ABC), whale optimization algorithm(WOA) and ant lion optimizer (ALO) to show the better performance of the SSA base LQR-PID controller than the other algorithm. The simulation results demonstrate that the LQR-PID performs better than the other methodologies which is compared in decreasing the amplitude of seismic responses of the structure in the terms of displacement of stories of the structure.
