Abstract

Background: Tritrichomonas foetus is a flagellated protozoan parasite causing reproductive tract disease in cattle, leading to infertility and abortion, and gastrointestinal issues, such as colitis and diarrhea, in cats. This review evaluates the prevalence of T. foetus in Iran, and surrounding countries such as Iraq and Turkey. Methods: Thirteen studies on T. foetus prevalence in cattle and cats from Iran, Iraq, and Turkey, published between 2010 and 2025, were analyzed using Google Scholar, PubMed, and Magiran databases. Results: T. foetus infections were documented in cattle and cats across all three countries, with higher prevalence in aborted cattle and cats with chronic diarrhea.. Conclusion: Recent research in these countries reveals the existence of these parasite infections in cattle and feline populations. Considering the potential for infection transmission between cattle and cats, alongside the economic effects of infertility and abortion in cattle, it is necessary to do additional epidemiological investigations to develop suitable control methods.
