Background: Toxoplasmosis is a widespread parasitic infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular protozoan. It is considered a global health issue with medical, veterinary, and economic significance. In livestock, particularly sheep and goats, T. gondii causes substantial economic losses through abortions, stillbirths, and neonatal mortality. This article aims to evaluate the research types and commercial vaccines available for managing toxoplasmosis in veterinary medicine. Methods: Articles available from Google Scholar and PubMed databases were reviewed regarding T. gondii, ways to control and prevent it, as well as the types of vaccines available. Results: Current treatments, such as pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine, mainly address the acute tachyzoite stage but are often ineffective against the persistent bradyzoite cysts. These therapies may also cause significant side effects and fail to prevent reinfection. Therefore, developing a safe, effective, and long-lasting vaccine is a critical and preferred strategy for preventing and controlling toxoplasmosis in both humans and animals. Conclusion: Due to the absence of a definitive treatment, the significant economic losses caused by toxoplasmosis, and its zoonotic nature, there is a pressing need to develop preventive strategies. Furthermore, research into novel and effective vaccination approaches could play a crucial role in controlling the spread of this widespread disease
