The importance of exosomes in intercellular communication is recognized in both cancerous and normal tissues. In the tumor fight colorectal cancer. This research considered papers that were indexed in PubMed before January 2023. The keywords including exosome, drug delivery, gene delivery, miRNA, and colorectal cancer were used to perform the literature review. For the preclinical studies, categorization was performed based on the cell origin of exosomes, the colorectal cancer cell lines investigated in the studies, the exosome cargoes such as chemotherapeutic agents, microRNAs, siRNAs, chemical and natural compounds, targeting strategies, exosome preparation techniques, engineering approaches to improve exosome properties, and final exosomal applications such as drug delivery, diagnosis, epigenetic regulation, and so on. microenvironment, these particles contain various biomolecules, a number of which have been identified as diagnostic and/or prognostic markers. Since they are naturally capable of harboring a wide range of molecules, they are considered as good candidates for anticancer drug delivery and diagnosis. Here, we focused on colorectal cancer and conducted a literature review to categorize and classify different exosome-based approaches t . Although exosomes represent a promising platform for diagnosis and therapy of colorectal cancer, the need to improve these particles is inevitable. These include identifying the most suitable cells as the source of exosomes, selecting the best exogenous or endogenous cargo or their combination, solving technical problems in various processes of exosome preparation, and optimizing the properties of exosomes, such as those that produce the highest efficiency.
