Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of combining mindful parenting and parent management training on improving emotional regulation and executive functioning in preschool children and their parents, hypothesizing that this approach would be more effective than intervention alone. A total of 126 mothers with preschool children aged 5 to 6 were randomly assigned to four groups: mindful parent training alone, parent management training alone, a combination of both, and waitlist control. Assessments of emotional regulation and executive function were conducted before the interventions, immediately after, and at a two-month follow-up. Primary analyses used mixed (between–within) repeated‑measures ANOVA; effect sizes are reported as partial η². The combined intervention significantly enhanced emotional regulation and executive function in children more effectively than either the intervention alone or the control condition, however, there was not a significant difference between the combined intervention and the other in parental outcomes. Mindful parenting, when integrated with behavioral management strategies, significantly enhances parenting practices, which in turn markedly improves children’s behavioral and emotional outcomes.
