Abstract

Over the last three decades, pesticide consumption has increased by 1.5 times globally. Pesticides, including herbicides, insecticides, acaricides, and bactericides, are widely produced and utilized in agricultural and industrial production activities. Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based sorbents have a large specific surface area, adjustable aperture size, easy modification, and facile production, which have been demonstrated to be a superior platform for pesticide adsorption. In this study, aluminium fumarate (Al-FUM) was synthesized as a cost-effective sorbent via a mild route employing fumaric acid as an organic linker. The resultant material was characterized using FT-IR, PXRD, and BET surface area analysis, confirming its porous architecture and phase purity. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the glyphosate uptake under varying conditions of pH, sorbent dose, and contact time. The adsorption process was found to be pH-dependent, with maximum efficiency observed near neutral pH, possibly due to favorable interactions between the functional groups of glyphosate and the framework surface sites.
