Abstract
A magnetic sorbent was developed for the extraction of trace phthalate esters (PAEs) from water by integrating magnetic graphene oxide with the metal-organic framework (UiO-66) and the covalent organic framework (SNW-1). Comprehensive characterization confirmed the successful formation of a porous and magnetically responsive composite suitable for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE). Key MSPE parameters, including sample pH, sorbent amount, adsorption/desorption time, ionic strength, and desorption conditions, were systematically optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the method exhibited excellent linearity over the ranges 0.15–500 ng mL⁻¹ for DMP and 0.2–500 ng mL⁻¹ for both DEP and BBP, with limits of detection and quantification of 0.05–0.06 and 0.15–0.20 ng mL⁻¹, respectively. Recoveries of 86.6–90.3% with relative standard deviations of 3.6–4.5% were obtained. The method was successfully applied to drinking, mineral, well water, and wastewater samples, demonstrating its reliability for trace-level determination of PAEs and highlighting the potential of multifunctional magnetic composites for monitoring emerging organic contaminants in environmental waters
