Abstract
The webs of plate girders are often subjected to localised in-plane compressive edge loading or patch loading, combined with bending and shear loading. While interaction formulae are available for the ultimate resistance of plate girders to combinations of two of the three forms of loading, no interaction formula appears to have been proposed for combinations of all three forms of loading. Herein an interaction formula for the ultimate resistance of slender plate girders to combined bending, shear and patch loading is proposed. The results of a single test on a plate girder subjected to a combination of all three forms of loading are also presented and used to validate the proposed interaction formula.
