Title : Applied ELT: A Movement beyond Applied Linguistics
Any human enterprise has a history of its own, and this book is no exception. In 2008 when I wrote an article on how to enhance the critical ability of the language learners via literary discussion, I had no idea that one day this might lead to a new theory. The idea of Applied ELT was born in 2011 while I tried to lay the foundations of the theory. That time, I was hesitant whether the theory would be embraced by the scholars in the field. So, I sent the article to some of the well-known figures of ELT, including Professor Larsen-Freeman to provide me with some comments. Surprisingly, I received a lot of accolades from them, which made me expand the idea of Applied ELT by highlighting the notion of Life Syllabus. Having written an article on Life Syllabus was contemporaneous with holding a conference on life issues by TESOL Arabia in Dubai. Reading the article, the organizers invited me to participate in the conference as a featured speaker. Later on, the theory gained more momentum and found its way in different M.A. theses and Ph.D. dissertations at several universities. In three years, more than 40 articles were written on the topic, which could be a proof to the visibility and acceptability of the theor
