Abstract:

Saffron is a medicinal plant with diverse applications in food, cosmetics, dyes, etc. Creating higher value through research and development and participating in the marketing chain can play an important role in increasing the income of saffron-producing countries. The experience of some saffron-exporting countries indicates that noncompliance with international standards, packaging problems, lack of strong brands, mismatches with the needs of target markets, bulk export of saffron, and lack of specialized marketing and exporting organizations are among the main problems of saffron export of these countries. Therefore, there is a need to create strong unions of producers and specialized marketing and export centers to address these issues. The use of major marketing tools, namely, price, product, promotion, and place, can play a significant role in increasing the value-add of saffron and increasing the export value of exporting countries.
