This paper presents an analytical solution to determine the interlaminar stresses at the free edges of symmetric cross-ply laminates with piezoelectric layers. The threedimensional constitutive equations of piezoelectricity are considered and a set of partial differential equations are obtained. The solutions of the equations are the unknown assumed functions for the displacement field. The numerical results obtained from this theory are compared with those obtained by finite element method. Numerical results clearly indicate the singular behavior of interlaminar normal and shear stresses in a boundary region near the edges of the laminate.
