Abstract

In this work, attempt has been made to find a low alloy steel with adequate mechanical properties, especially fatigue limit. Two P/M Steels (Fe-Ni-Cu-Mo) with 0.6% C, one containing 1.75% and the other 4% nickel were selected. Samples were sintered in H2/N2 atmosphere for 30 minutes at 1120 C. First group (1.75% Ni) had a density of 7.13 gr/cm3 and fatigue limit of 214 MPa (at 2000000 cycles), while the latter group (4% Ni) showed a density of 7.17 gr/cm3 and fatigue limit of 327 MPa. After heat treatment, Austnitizing at 860 C and tempering at 180 C for one hour, the fatigue limit of the two materials increased to 239 and 350 MPa respectively.
