Abstract

Abstrac---Results are presented from a combined experimental and modeling study in turbulent liquid fuel spray flames. The present study is concerned with measuring and simulating soot formation and combustion in turbulent liquid fuel spray flames In the present study the influence of fuel spray cone angle on sooting kerosene-air turbulent flames are investigated both experimentally and numerically. A filter paper technique is implemented for soot measurements. A hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian method is employed to model the reactive flowfield inside the combustor. A detailed reaction mechanism for kerosene-air with 84 species and 440 elementary reactions is implemented for combustion modeling. Soot is modeled by taking into account for inception, coagulation, surface growth, and soot combustion processes. The experimental and numerical results show the significant influence of spray nozzle angle on soot distribution. The results show that although peak soot concentration enhances with increasing fuel spray angle, soot emission from the combustor decreases.
