Abstract

An investigation was conducted on effects of vermicompost on seed germination and some quantitative and qualitative characteristics of tomato (Lycopersicun esculentum) transplants under greenhouse condition. In regard to this, the main aim of this research was to study the influence of different levels of vermi-composte (0, 10, 25, 50, and 100%) on seed germination parameters (germination rate and percent,), and growth (DM%, node number and length, leaf area) of greenhouse tomato. The results indicated that there were significant different between treatments. Highest seed germination rate was in 25 % vermicomposte. Tomato seedling grown in 100% vermicompost had lowest amount of total chlorophyll and lesser leaf diameter, lowest dry weight and shorter seedling between all treatments even in control plants. Application of 50% vermicompost increased the inter-node number, root dry weight and leaf N content of tomato seedling significantly compared of those grown in control plant. Incorporation of 25% vermicompost increased significantly the shoot dry weight and leaf area of tomato seedling compared to control.
