This articlepresentsamodeltosimulatethedynamicsofboringprocess.Inboringoperationsthe boringbarshouldbelongandslender;thereforeitiseasilysubjectedtovibrations.Toolvibrations result inreducedtoollife,poorsurfacefinishandmayalsointroducechatter.Hence,predictingthe vibrational behaviorofboringprocessforcertaincuttingconditionsandtoolwork-piecepropertiesisof great importance.TheproposedmethodmodelsthecuttingtoolgeometrybyB-splineparametric curves. ByusingB-splinecurvesitispossibletosimulatedifferenttoolgeometrieswithasingle approach. B-splinecurvesalsoenablethemodelingofthekinematicsofchipformationfordifferenttool work-pieceengagementconditionswithasingleformulation.Theboringbarhasbeenmodeledbythe Euler–Bernoullibeamtheory.ThesimulationprocesshasbeenimplementedwithMATLAB.The algorithm consistsofdifferentcomputationalmodulesthatareinterconnectedbyamainprogram. Experimentalmachiningtestshavebeenconductedtoverifythevalidityoftheproposedmodel. Proposed dynamicmodelshavebeenabletopredictthedynamiccuttingforcecomponentsand vibration frequencieswithlessthan15%deviation.Theproposedmodelhasbeenalsoabletopredict the chatteronsetcorrectly.
