Today, harmful effects of chemical medicine cause of tendency to medicinal plants. Calendula officinalis L. (Pot marigold) is a well known medicinal plant of the Asteraceae family. The flowers are used for medicinal, ornamental and industry purposes. The pot marigold is well known for its pharmacological activities due to its antimicrobial, antiseptic, wound and ulcer healing and hypotensive properties. An experiment was conducted to study the effects of different levels of nitrogen fertilizer (40, 70 and 100 kg/ha) and cattle manure (15 and 30 ton/ha) on extracts percentage and dry flower yield of the pot marigold. This experiment was conducted at research field of Islamic Azad University of Bojnourd branch in 2009. Field experiment was carried out as randomized complete block design with four replications. The essential oil of it was obtained by hydro-distillation in 8 hours. Also, ten grams of dried powder was extracted with n-hexane solvent for 2 h at slow heat. The extracts are concentrated with a rotavapor. The results indicated that effect of cattle manure (30 ton/ha) was significant on dry flower yield and extract per 100 g flower dry matter (extract percentage). The highest dry flower yield (85.64 g/m2) and extract percentage obtained by 30 ton/ha cattle manure. The extract percentage ranged from 6.38 to 10.19 (g per 100 flower dry matter). The amount of extract percentage increased in second harvested ratio to first harvested for cattle manure treatment but it decreased for nitrogen treatments. The effects of different types and rates of fertilizer were not significant on potassium percentage in shoot tissues.
