Abstract
In this study, a new analytical method is presented for static analysis of rectangular functionally graded plates with any combination of clamped/simply supported boundary conditions under transverse mechanical loading. This method is based on the novel superposition method and the first-order shear deformation theory. It is assumed that the non-homogeneous mechanical properties vary through the thickness of the plate. Using Fourier series for displacement components and edge force and moment resultants, the complex governing equations are reduced to a set of linear algebraic equations with non-trivial solution. The obtained equations may be solved analytically to determine the unknown stress resultants. Several examples are presented, and their numerical results are compared with those available in the literatures or obtained from commercial software ABAQUS. This comparison verifies high accuracy and the capability of the present method to analyze the static behavior of functionally graded plates.
