The volatile constituents of the oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the flowering aerial parts of Pseudohandelia umbellifera (Boiss.) Tzvel., which is growing wild in Iran, were investigated by means of GC and GC/MS. Forty-eight compounds were characterized, comprising about 95.6% of the total oil. Oxygenated sesquiterpenes (54.07%) and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (13.91%) were found to be the major fraction of the oil, with small amount of monoterpene hydrocarbons (0.66%). The most abundant compounds were 7-hydroxy coumarin (15.68%), (E, E)-farnesol (9.51%), (Z)-nuciferol acetate (7.74%), cis-lanceol acetate (5.93%), phytol (5.08%), and γ-terpinene-7-al (4.26%).
