Abstract
ABSTRACT Many of present researches show that performer\'s focus of attention has important effect on performance and learning motor skills. Specially, procedures that induce external focus of attention, in comparison to internal focus of attention can improve performance. It seems that one of the preconditions that cause different focus of attention, is performer\'s skill level, thus the purpose of present research is to compare the effect of kind of attentional focus instructions and performer\'s skill level on performing vertical jump. Fourthly boy college students in two groups beginner and skilled took part in this study. Participants were asked in either focus of attention condition (control/internal/external) to do five vertical jumps. Subjects in either group were randomly in two groups. The results of the study showed that the beginner group with internal focus of attention instruction and the skilled group with external focus of attention instruction showed a better performance. There for based of this study it is concluded that the effectiveness of focus of attention as a motor performance variable depends on some factors such as level of skill.
