Abstract
In this article the hydrogeochemistry (anions and cations), specially Hexavalent chromium (Cr+6) and its health effects issues has been investigated in Aliabad plain, located in South Eastern of Birjand. The concentration of Cr+6 in groundwater is elevated than the standard limit (0.05 mgl-1) and in some wells Cr+6 concentration reaches up to 0.097 mgl-1. Comparison of data shows that the concentrations of Cr+6 is increased in years 2006 and 2007 in compare with data for year 1996. Due to the high concentrations of chromium (both Cr+3 and Cr+6) in drinking water, people suffering from digestive diseases, e.g. gastric, and diabetes in Aliabad area. In addition, the high concentrations of Ca2+ in water caused kidney diseases (with abundance of 34-36%) which are more than global average (10-12%).
