Abstract
We investigated Cd and Zn uptake in white clover inoculated by two mycorrhizal species. In this order plants were grown in pots with two compartments (hyphal and root compartments), to identify the exact role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Experimental factors included: Two fungal species (G. mossea and G. intraradices and control) added to root compartment and four combinations of metals (400 mg of Zn, 25 mg of Cd, 25 mg of Cd + 400 mg of Zn and no metal kg-1 soil sample) added to hyphal compartment. The results showed Cd and Zn concentration in shoot of white clover increased noticeably in Cd and Zn treatments. AM fungi increased the Cd concentration in root of white clover significantly. AM fungi promoted the Zn concentration in shoot and root of white clover. Root to shoot Cd concentration was higher than Zn concentration in AM fungi treatments. It seems that G. intraradices gave more tolerance to clover compared to G. mossea in the presence of Cd.
