Abstract
Heat exchangers are an important part of industrial processes as they handle a major portion of total energy consumption. Fouling can have serious impact on the performance of heat exchangers and hence affect the economic performance of a process plant so if we can predict the thickness of fouling layer by passing time; it causes significant reduction of operation costs. For numerical simulation of fouling process in heat exchangers Fluent software is used but it could not be useful lonely so we implemented fouling models to it by developing a C# program and adopting UDF functions to it. In this work a simple geometry for current flow on plate heat exchanger with k-ε model is used. The results of this study reveal that the rate of fouling will be reduced as the inlet velocity increases. Furthermore, the finding of this work would enable us to evaluate the thickness and fouling rate in the heat exchangers.
