Abstract
In this paper clutch engagement strategy for a mild hybrid powertrain is investigated. The configuration has been developed based on the requirements of a 7.5 tonne delivery truck and includes a set of clutches to selectively link components to the axial driveline. This research particularly concerns the clutch which is situated between the diesel engine and the electric machine. A novel clutch design is introduced to perform under different drive modes. Transmitting start-up torque to the diesel engine is the principal function of the proposed clutch which is undertaken by a non contact and wear free status.
