Abstract

Prebiotics can enhance digestion through production of digestive enzymes. Better digestion leads to lower waste production and improve water quality. Artemia as a major live food has special importance in aquaculture. Artemia urmiana is an endemic species of Iran. Urmia Lake, the unique habitat of Artemia urmiana has been threated over the last decade. The aim of this experiment was to study the effects of Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis on digestive enzyme (protease, amylase and lipase) activities of Artemia urmiana. Results showed that at least 10 days is needed dor B. subtilis and B. licheniformis to take effect on digestive enzyme. Proably, increase in digestive enzymes activity will enhance digestion capacity and growth of artemia.
