Liquid phase alkylation of benzene with 1-decene was investigated on supported Dawson heteropolyacid (HPA) as catalyst. Dawson acid (H6P2W18O62) was supported on nano Titania (n-TiO2) with 50% loading and after calcination at 300°C was used in the synthesis of linear alkylbenzene (LAB). The catalyst was characterized by XRD and FTIR spectroscopy. At the reaction temperature of 80°C and atmosphere pressure, the n-TiO2 supported Dawson acid showed higher catalytic activity and selectivity than bulk form of Dawson. The n-TiO2 supported Dawson gave 87% conversion of 1-decene and 36% selectivity toward 2-phenyl isomer under reaction conditions.
