Abstract
Saffron is a herbaceous and perennial, semi tropic plant iridaceae family and occupies position among export products. To investigate impact of soil characteristics and field age on flower and corm yield on saffron, an experiment was conducte as factorial based on completely randomized design with 5 replications in 2009 on 3 different filed ages (2,4,6 years) and two geographical regions in Neyshabour. Data was collected on fresh and dry weight of corm, corm number, sprout number of corm and flower and stigma yield of saffron. Soil physical and chemical characteristics such as soil texture, PH and EC were also recorded. Stigma and flower yield was significantly related to physical and chemical soil (soil texture, EC,PH) characteristics. Te results also revealed significant effect of filed age on total studied characteristics in saffron. Flower and stigma yield was also significantly affected by region and filed age and their interactions. Positive significant regression was observed between filed age and parameters such as fresh and dry corm weight, sprout number on corm and number of corm.
