Abstract

Magnetite nanopowders were synthesized by co-precipitation method. The obtained nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-Vis spectra. The results indicate the formation of Fe3O4 nanoparticles with the cubic inverse spinel structure that have nearly spherical shape and to some extent narrow size distribution (6- 26 nm). The product also possesses superparamagnetic properties at room temperature with high saturation magnetization (70emu/gr). The design of nanoparticles with these special features offers a high potential for application in different areas and specially could be highly promising in biomedical fields.
