Abstract
In the current paper the effect of the Casimir force on the response of a fully clamped nanoelectro- mechanical beam under mechanical shock is studied. This model accounts for midplane stretching and applied axial loading. A Galerkin based reduced order modelling is utilized to solve the problem. It is found that considering the Casimir force and shock pulse interaction may lead to early instability in nano-electro-mechanical devices through dynamic pull-in even in the case with no applied input voltage. The results are in good agreement with those presented in the literature for the case in which the effect of Casimir force has been neglected.
