Abstract
A new halophilic archaeaon was isolated from hypersaline lake in Iran. The physiological, biochemical and phylogenetic differences between this novel strain and other previously described genera of extremely halophilic archaea suggest that this strain represents a novel species in a new genus in the family Halobacteriaceae.
