Authors: Mohammad Reza Hashemi , Masood Khoshsaligheh , Somayeh Karimdadian ,Abstract
This paper presents some descriptive statistical information on the profile of average undergraduate students who is majoring in English Translation in universities and institutes of higher education in Iran which offer an English translator educating program. Unlike the relatively new graduate programs focusing on translation studies, undergraduate degree programs on translation in Iran, especially English and Persian translation, have been on the agenda for applicants and have quite a long history dating back to decades ago. However, despite the relatively long standing of the program in the educational system of the country, meager empirical information is available on the students, the clients of this educational service in practice. The results of this research, an initial stage of a more extended research carried out on the needs analysis of prospective English translators, are expected to clarify the image of students presently studying English translation at undergraduate programs in Iran.
