Abstract

This paper focuses on the influence of ionic liquid on carbon nanotube based epoxy resin composites. Multi-walled Carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) with superior electrical conductivity have been used for improving the electrical properties of polymer composites. Modification of MWCNT by choline chloride (ChCl) based ionic liquids (IL) due to (cation-π/π-π) interaction between MWCNT and IL improves the networking of tubes in polymer and increases their electrical conductivity. In this work, the effect of ChCl/Glycerol ionic liquid (Glyceline) on DC conductivity of MWCNT/epoxy resin composites with DC conductivity measurement of unmodified and glyceline modified MWCNT composites were studied. The presence of optimize amount of glyceline not only increases DC electrical conductivity and polarisability of the composites but also improves the state of dispersion of the tubes.
